In an online blog last year, writer Sabrina Reed questions "Why are there no Black teen romances on Netflix?" If you take a deep dive on the popular streaming service, you'd find that there are in fact, no Black YA movies centered on romance. There are plenty White teen movies and even a few where the love interest is Black, but most Black teen movies are focused on social justice issues.

Many teens are influenced by the media when it comes to dating. It is so important to show diversity in film and tv, so young people can see a reflection of themselves when it comes to dating and relationships. In short, representation matters.
